A lot of people ask me “how do I get help after I or someone in my
family has had a traumatic brain injury?” — the first thing
I’m going to say to them is: start with your local or the National
Brain Injury Association. On the national level, there is the BIA USA
(Brain Injury Association USA), and in Utah, we have the Brain Injury
Alliance. Those are both very good resources to start at, because they
can connect you to both treatment options, family advocacy options, support
groups, and other sorts of help.
And the second thing is: do your careful research. Find the lawyer who
has really dedicated time to training and experience to handle the traumatic
brain injury case. They are different from the typical personal injury
case. You need someone who is a specialist in that area who has really
taken the extra time.
